The Heart of a Kid's Pastor

What is the Heart of a Kid's Pastor?

We should first start with what makes you a Kid's Pastor? A Kid's Pastor is one who has said yes to the call of Christ and His plan for their life. It is also one who is as passionate as Jesus is about reaching kids and families! Kid's Pastors are a diverse group. Some are called to full-time ministry and have prepared themselves through education, training and experience. Some are bi-vocational and God has called them out to serve kids. Others are volunteers, yet they have responded to the call of Christ and love kids like Jesus did!

So, What's the heart of a Kid's Pastor?

The Heart of a Kid's Pastor is what what moves you as a Kidmin leader! First, It is about reaching lost kids and families so that they can experience God's love and His incredible plan for them. Saying yes to God is always the beginning of something incredible! The first "yes" for forgiveness of sins is critical. How can they say yes if they have never heard? Today, in America, hundreds of thousands of kids have never heard the full story of Jesus! I was a fortunate kids growing up. A year or so before I came into this world, my parents surrendered their lives to God. What a benefit to see the most influential people in my life, praying, taking me to church, responding to an altar call! I was 8 years old when I responded to an altar call for salvation from my Kid's Pastor. I remember the overwhelming sense that God forgave me and that He was with me.

If you are a Kidmin leader, involved in kids ministry, God has called you to work with His favorite people - children! The Bible often calls attention to the significance of children, as did Jesus. Kids are not secondary in His Kingdom!

Kids have a lifetime to live for Him. The 4 -14 window tells us that the majority of people who become Christ-followers, do so within this age bracket. It is incredible that you and I can reach and teach a Christ-follower who will serve Him for 60, 70 even 80+ years!

Talk about significant ministry; we get to be a major player in the most significant one there is! You can not build a church today without a significant ministry to kids and their families.

(part 2- next post)

Pause, Praise, Pray

Take a few minutes to Pause and think about your journey into kid's ministry. How did it happen? Did you sense God's call or just the small nudge of the Holy Spirit? Or did you simply meet a need in your church or a ministry?

Write it down - so you can do something significant right now - Praise

Take time to praise God for allowing you to minister to kids and families. He chose you and He is cheering you on! I am cheering for you right now! God is keeping an account of all the hard work and sacrifice. He will reward you one day!

Last but not least - Pray! Ask the Holy Spirit to give you dreams and renewed vision to reach lost kids and families in your own community. I always say, "No one is more creative than the Holy Spirit...just look around!" Pray for your kids and their families. God will answer those prayers and give you paths to reach and minister to them.
